As many of my blog followers know, I also write content for the amazingly brilliant, conscious fashion company, Lotus Effect.

Today’s article is all about understanding, opening, and clearing the chakras, and since this is Chakra Center after all, I felt it would be an appropriate blog share for today!

Enjoy!

Believed to be the centers for spiritual energy, the 7 Chakras are a chakras3.jpgcrucial system for understanding the flow of personal life force. Not only do these center points hold specific energy in the body, they also flow back and forth between each other and represent a vital aspect of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Each individual chakra has a specific purpose in the body, and can be blocked by unhealed emotions and trauma. When one of these energy centers is blocked, it messes with the balance of our entire system. Blocked chakras can lead to illness, as well as spiritual and emotional unrest. Understanding how to clear and balance the chakras is crucial for our overall health.

Knowing where these energy center points are located in the body, as well as their emotional components, is an important step in learning how to be in-tune with the body’s life force.

Here is a basic overview:

Root Chakra – Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra is rootchakra2where the body carries its survival energy. Issues of money, food, and stability are associated with this chakra. When opened and clear one feels grounded and at peace. The emotion that blocks this chakra is fear.

If you carry fear for your basic survival (this can include financial stress or eating disorders), it is important to work on healing your root chakra. The key to healing this chakra is surrendering to your fears and allowing them to flow through you (rather than resisting and suppressing them).

Color associated with the root chakra: Red

Sacral Chakra – Located about 2 inches below the navel and 2 sacral chakra2inches in, is the sacral chakra. Related to the ability to give and receive, as well as sexual and creative energy, this chakra deals with pleasure, and is blocked by guilt. Because of social and religious programming, most people have blocks in their sacral chakra.

Feeling guilt related to receiving pleasure (of any form), creativity, or sexuality – or carrying emotional trauma related to sexuality,  is an indication the sacral chakra needs to be healed and cleared.

Look at the things you feel guilty about in your life. Accept the reality of the events, and learn to forgive yourself. It is impossible for this chakra to be opened and balanced without self-forgiveness and acceptance.

Color associated with the sacral chakra: Orange

Solar Plexus Chakra – Located in the abdomen/stomach area, solar plexusthe solar plexus chakra deals with one’s sense of personal power and self-control, and is blocked by shame. Feelings of self-worth, self-confidence, and self-esteem are tied to this chakra.

In order to open and clear the solar plexus, it is essential to love and accept all aspects of yourself, including your mistakes.

Color associated with the solar plexus chakra: Yellow

Heart Chakra – Located in the center of the chest, just above the heart chakraheart, the heart chakra deals with our joy, inner peace, and ability to love. This chakra is blocked by grief.

To clear and release the heart chakra, it is important to acknowledge, validate, and release all loss. Allow yourself to feel the pain of grief. Do not hold and suppress the sadness — let your emotions flow.

Color associated with the heart chakra: Green

Throat Chakra – Located in the throat, the throat chakra deals throat chakrawith the ability to communicate truth, and is blocked by lies – especially the lies we tell ourselves.

To heal and open the throat chakra, it is important to release all self-denial and lies – even when those lies are functioning as a coping mechanism. We cannot lie about our own nature. It is impossible to be able to communicate in a powerful way when one holds onto self-deluded lies.

Color associated with the throat chakra: Blue

Third Eye Chakra – Located on the forehead between the eyes, cropped-7chakra1.jpgthe third eye deals with the ability to focus on and see the big picture (as well as psychic vision and insight). This chakra is blocked by illusion. The greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation.

In order to heal and clear this chakra, it is crucial to release all illusion within ourselves and understand we are connected to all things. There is no separation. Things we think are separate and different, are actually one and the same.

Color associated with the thrid eye chakra: Indigo

Crown Chakra – Located at the very top of the head, this highest Crown-chakrachakra represents the ability to be fully connected spiritually. It deals with pure, cosmic energy, and is blocked by earthly attachment.

Healing and opening the crown chakra requires us to let go of the things we hold on to most desperately, trusting the love and flow of the Universe/Source within us to be our ultimate fulfillment and bliss.

Opening the crown chakra is not about denying our desires or connection to the earth, it is simply about letting go of our grasp and surrendering to Universal cosmic energy (or God).

Color associated with the crown chakra: Violet

Opening and healing the chakras is about walking the spiritual path of self-awareness. It is not something that is done in one mediation, but rather a daily practice on the inward journey. By tuning into our emotional blockages and needs, we allow ourselves to expand, trust, and ultimately be set free.

Monday’s Magic Spell: Deleting Damaging Programs

Body Work, EmBody Bliss, Empaths, Magic Mondays, Meditation, Meditation Monday, The Sacral Chakra

cropped-chakra-center2.jpg

Vibrational awareness is the key to change. But one of the oldest (and thickest) programs we’ve been told as a human race is that things cannot change. We’ve believed for so long the external world is in control of us, that we’re victims, and what we think/feel/experience is inconsequential at best, evil at worst.

Of course, we all know now that it couldn’t be further from the truth. Yet, we’ve lived with these programs for so long that we’ve somehow come to believe the residue left behind is WHO WE ARE (rather than simply effects of the system).

The old paradigm of aggressor/victim/savior can only survive if we continue playing those roles. The great news is, we don’t have to agree to that game anymore. We can play a new game. We can have new roles. What would the game look like if we were ALL self-empowered?!

One of the keys to activating the new paradigm in your own life is by healing and balancing your lower chakas. The lower chakras have been so demonized by culture and religion (and even some New Age teachers), that we’ve become confused as to why we even have them. They are associated with our “human nature” — an aspect we’re told we need to destroy. If we can keep the “human” enslaved and controlled, we can have order.

The old paradigm wants to keep you a slave to your feelings/emotions because that’s the only way you can be controlled. As long as you stay out of the power of your lower chakras, you will not be a threat.

How convenient for the old system that one of the programs put in chakra magicplace in our Sacral Chakras is a sort of built-in guilt about our innate power, about receiving, and about pleasure. We’re not allowed to enjoy the world, feel pleasure, or receive without some sort of repercussion, and even attempting to change things sets off triggers of guilt, shame, and fear. We even go so far as to “slay” it, and by exiling the “shade” aspects of ourselves we’ve created our own monsters that we continue to fear.

The fear is just a program. The only truth it holds is the truth we give it. The only power it has is fueled by the emotional convictions we put behind it. And the program itself is one of duality, one that causes the energies of our lower charkas to get out of balance. It’s a game we’re all tired of, yet we continue to victimize ourselves and each other by agreeing with the rules of that paradigm. And the vicious cycle of aggressor/victim/savior continues.

In order for this program to survive, the aggressor needs a victim to terrorize, the victim needs a savior, and the savior who jumps in to rescue needs both (otherwise its role would be void).

What role have you been playing? We all typically slide into one of these roles quite comfortably, or vacillate between all three. And ironically, none of them are empowering.

Ultimately, when you embrace the power of your inner Shade, you are released from the program. It is impossible to be in your power and in the program of aggressor/victim/savior at the same time.

Healing (especially from trauma) takes time, and we need to allow ourselves the freedom to take as long as we need to soothe and comfort wounds caused from the program. But we DO NOT need to keep the program.

So for today’s magic spell, take a long, luxurious look at what the empowered version of you would feel like. See the you that has integrated both light and darkness (in balance) and is free from the aggressor/victim/savior paradigm.

What does the empowered YOU look like/feel like?

How does he/she create?

How does he/she luxuriate?

How does he/she look at people?

How does he/she walk?

How does he/she dress?

How does he/she interact with the energy around her/within her?

Simply spend some time playing around with the energy. If it’s too empowered womanhard to put yourself in that role (due to the program still having too much persuasion on your thoughts) imagine you are writing a character that DOES own her power. One who is graceful and powerful and knows how to give and receive in abundance and with true, unconditional love.

Write that character. Indulge in the emotions of what she would FEEL like. Emotions are what drive the creations we bring forth into the world, and transforming/healing your sacral chakra will ultimately be fueled by how you feel.

The intensity of the pain/trauma you’ve experienced in the past does not have to rule you for the rest of your life. Start experimenting with what it would FEEL like to experience something different. You might be amazed at what you find.

What Everyone Needs to Know About Their Chakras

Chakra Centers, Features, Spirituality, The Crown Chakra, The Heart Chakra, The Root Chakra, The Sacral Chakra, The Solar Plexus Chakra, The Third Eye Chakra, The Throat Chakra

This morning I was browsing through Mindbodygreen and stumbled across this article by Deepak Chopra.  Deepak offers a in-depth and unique perspective on the Chakras I just had to share! Enjoy!

Each of the seven chakras are governed by spiritual laws, principles of consciousness that we can use to cultivate greater harmony, happiness, and wellbeing in our lives and in the world.

The First Center: The Root Chakra

The root chakra, known in Sanskrit as muladhara, is located at the base of the spine. It governs your most basic survival needs. When this chakra is clear and energy flows through it freely, we feel secure and confident that we can easily fulfill our needs. However, blockage in this area can cause us to feel anxious and worried.

The spiritual Law of Karma governs the first energy center. On the physical plane, every action you perform results in a corresponding reaction. To maximize the possibility that your actions generate evolutionary reactions, you can use your body as a choice determining instrument.

Consider the possibilities in front of you and listen to signals from your body. These sensations generating from the root chakra are either comfortable or uncomfortable. Your body evaluates every possible decision in terms of its likelihood to meet your needs for safety or increase the level of threat you experience. The first chakra, which connects you with the earth, provides essential information as to the potential nourishment or toxicity that is available to you as a result of the actions you are taking.

The Second Center: Creativity Chakra

The creativity chakra, called svadhishtana, is associated with creativity in all its expressions. Located in the area of your sexual organs, the energy of this center can be used for biological reproduction. When channeled into higher energy centers, it fuels the creative force that enables you to paint a beautiful picture, build a business, or create a life of love and abundance.

The Law of Least Effort is lively in the second chakra. When your vital energy is flowing through your center of creativity, you co-create your life. The solution to every problem is rarely on the level of the problem. Rather, it comes from a deeper domain of creativity. Creativity is the process of taking the same raw material and creating different contexts and relationships between the components.

For example, when a composer creates a new piece of music, he is using the same notes in a new relationship with one another other, resulting in the emergence of something that did not exist before. The second chakra utilizes the raw material of the root chakra to create the world anew each day.

The Third Center: Energy Chakra

The energy chakra, manipura, is localized in your solar plexus. It’s the seat of your power in the world. When this center is open and flowing, you are capable of translating your intentions and desires into manifestation. When it is blocked, you feel frustrated and ineffectual.

The Law of Intention and Desire governs the third chakra. The seeds of intentions and desires reside in your personal soul. Nourishing the seeds you wish to germinate with your attention will lead to their full expression. It is important to be clear about your intentions so you are not surprised when they bear fruit.

The process of manifesting your desires is to first bring them into consciousness, followed by expanding your awareness through meditation, and finally releasing your intentions and detaching from the outcome. You can control your actions, however you cannot control the fruit of your actions. Keep your life energy flowing freely through your third chakra and the light and heat of your intentions will radiate on the world.

The Fourth Center: Heart Chakra

The heart chakra represents the unifying energy of love and compassion. Known as anahata, it is located at the center of the chest. The heart chakra is dedicated to overcoming separation and division. When the heart center is blocked, there is a sense of alienation from others. When the heart center is open and flowing, you feel connected at a deep level to all beings in your life.

The Law of Giving and Receiving governs the heart chakra. Love can take many different forms at different stages of life. The love of child for her mother is different than a mother’s love for her child. A friend’s love is different than that of a passionate lover or the love of a student for his teacher. However so, the common thread in each of these expressions of love is the impulse to unify—to overcome separation. This is the nature of the heart.

Every act of giving is simultaneously an act of receiving. Each time you welcome a gift into your life, you are providing the opportunity for someone to give. Just as a healthy physical heart receives blood from the periphery which it then oxygenates and pumps back out, your emotional heart stays healthy by receiving and giving love in all its forms.

The Fifth Center: Expression Chakra

The throat chakra, called visshuddha in Sanskrit, is the center of expression. When the fifth chakra is open and flowing, you have the confidence that you are capable of communicating your needs. When the fifth chakra is obstructed, a person will often feel that they are not being heard. In order to feel alive and empowered, it’s important that this energy center is clear. Blockages in this area are often associated with thyroid problems or chronic neck pain.

The Law of Detachment governs the throat chakra. An open fifth chakra enables you to express your truth without concern for censors or critics. This does not mean you say things that are intentionally hurtful or insensitive. On the contrary, people with open centers of communication are skillful in expressing their needs in ways that are life supporting. Anxiety over how people will react to your views does not arise when energy is flowing freely through the chakra of expression.

The Law of Detachment reminds you that you can choose your words and actions, but you cannot control the response to your words and action. When your intentions are clear, and your heart is open, you will spontaneously demonstrate right speech trusting that the universe will handle the details.

The Sixth Center: Intuition Chakra

The intuition chakra, known in Sanskrit as ajna, is located in the forehead. It is the center of insight and intuition. When this center is open, you have a deep sense of connection to your inner voice, and feel guided in your choices. When blocked, there is a sense of self-doubt and distrust. The opening of this chakra is usually associated with a clear sense of connection to ones dharma, or purpose in life.

The Law of Dharma or Cause and Effect governs the sixth chakra. You have within you a wise voice guiding you to express the highest aspects of your nature. Listen to this still inner voice, which is guiding you to manifest your full potential. Quiet the internal turbulence that is filled with the voices of others so you can identify the sound of your own soul. It has only one desire—for you to remember your essential nature as a spark of the divine.

The Seventh Center: Consciousness Chakra

The consciousness chakra, known as dahaswara, is visualized as a lotus flower at the crown of the head. When the lotus unfolds its petals, the memory of wholeness is restored. Remember that your essential nature is unbounded, and that you are spirit in disguise as a person. This is the full expression of yoga – the unification of being with action, of universality with individuality.

The Law of Pure Potentiality governs the seventh chakra. When your roots are receiving nourishment from the earth in the first chakra, your creative juices are flowing in the second, your intentions are empowered in the third, your heart is open and exchanging love with those around you in the fourth, you are spontaneously expressing your highest self in the fifth, you are in touch with your inner voice in the sixth, only then, does energy move into the crown chakra and you remember your essential nature as infinite and unbounded. The thousand-petaled lotus flower unfolds and you know yourself as a spiritual being temporarily localized to a body and mind.

The Yoga of Meditation The Upanishads tell us, “As great as the infinite space beyond is the space within the lotus of the heart.” From the time of your birth, you have been called to explore the world outside of you. Meditation is the exploration of your inner world. Yoga encourages you to be as familiar with your inner world of thoughts, feelings, memories, desires, and imagination as you are with the outer world. When you can move through both the inner and outer domains of life with freedom and joy, you fulfill the highest purpose of yoga.

Tuscany, Italy — October 4th – 11th 2013:

Get ready to lavish in luxury, learn about wine from the experts, experience traditional Tuscan cuisine prepared by Italians (raw and vegan style), steep in the magic of aromatherapy, healing massage, and energy work, connect with like minds, and experience your internal world  through complete indulgence in your senses. This will be an exclusive,once-in-a-lifetime, full immersion retreat in the heart of Tuscany.

So often in the “spiritual community” we are taught to deny our selves. We make a conscious effort to fully activate and engage our upper chakras through meditation, prayer, out of body experiences, and fasting, but we neglect our lower chakras – we discount the purpose and power of our physical experiences.

We came into life in this physical dimension to experience it, learn from it, and expand. Denying the importance and role of our physical expression cuts off a major aspect of our purpose here, and rather than “setting us free” it often leads to repressed and blocked energy in the body.

It’s all about balance. We don’t want to over-indulge the physical, but often we need to create moments and experiences where we can fully allow our lower chakras a place to take center stage. When we activate and allow our lower chakras to do what they were designed to do, we can create bliss that is unparallel in any other dimension – we experience the merging of the physical and non-physical aspects of ourselves which – when fully charged – can allow the flow of energy through our bodies to cause a kundalini experience throughout our entire energetic and physical fields.

Activating bliss through our five senses is a total allowance of our physical and spiritual selves to come together in complete harmony in this 3rd dimension – to give us permission to create and experience beauty; the bliss of such moments is often called “orgasmic” for a reason. It’s the closest we come to experiencing the fullness of our WHOLE selves in this dimension, and it is through our physical senses that these moments of creative and sensual pleasure are made possible.

Italy is a country where beauty reigns. It’s a place where culturally time is arranged to experience the poetry and magic of “la vita bella.” It’s an experience you don’t just live; you enter directly into the music of life. You allow the beauty of the physical world to seep into every cell of your body. It’s about indulgence. It’s about creation. It’s about experiencing the bounty and harvest of our energetic and spiritual work that has been transmuted into physical attributes: Wine, chocolate, living organic foods, music, aromatherapy, massage, and all things blissful. Italy is truly an immersion in the aesthetics of creation.

This retreat provides an experience, an opportunity to allow yourself to let go and fully surrender to the beauty within and
around you, filling your senses, your body, and your spirit with the majesty and magic of what it means to truly live, love, and luxuriate in bliss of being in a body of flesh and blood. It’s about losing yourself in present moment awareness and fully experiencing the gift of our physical world.

Here’s a lil’ taste of the magic we’re weaving together for you:

The Secret Life of Chakras

Imagine seven ‘wheels’ of energy spinning in your body along its centerline, from the base of your spine to the top of your head. These subtle energy channels each correspond to different areas of the body as well as specific life situations. They channel energy to where it’s needed, for optimal health and wellbeing.

In many ways the chakras are like intersections in a busy city. They channel traffic, and the traffic grid is designed to keep traffic flowing freely. But as we have all experienced, city traffic can easily become snarled. All it takes is one angry or insensitive driver blocking an intersection, and everything comes to a stop. Traffic ‘upstream’ from the blockage becomes an impassable domino effect of cars clogging the streets and blocking other intersections. And ‘downstream’, the streets are empty.

Check out the chakra chart below to understand your chakras better.

click to enlarge the Chakra Chart

Imagine that scenario in your energy flow. If one or more of your chakras are blocked, they cause disturbances and imbalances on both sides of the flow. The result is stagnating energy that causes poor health, undesirable life conditions, unhappiness and a sense that nothing is going right.

You may have blockages or imbalances in several chakras, but it is often due to one major blockage in one chakra that then affects the others. Take a free chakra test to find out which of your chakras are blocked!

Now that you know how important the chakras are to your overall health and wellbeing, let’s look at individual chakras and the ways they affect the system.

root chakra symbolStarting at the bottom of the line of chakras, we find the first chakraor the Root chakra, located at the base of the spine. It corresponds to the physical body and connection to the Earth. Just like a foundation, it is concerned with the basics of survival: food, shelter, safety, comfort and belonging. You can tell if your root chakra is closed if you often feel stuck and sluggish; you experience unrelenting stress because of a belief that you must rely on external circumstances; you may have persistent financial problems and find yourself in a less-than-ideal career.

sacral chakraJust up from the root chakra is the Sacral chakra. This is the seat of kundalini energy, sexuality, pleasure, intimacy, creativity and the joys of life. This chakra is located just below and behind the navel. Looking at the body from head to toe, this is your physical center. If your sacral chakra is weak, you struggle with a healthy self-image; you experience difficulty allowing yourself to become emotionally and sexually intimate; you move from one relationship to another, desperately trying to find “the one” yet lacking the sense that you are worthy of love. Most notably, your libido is very low.

solar plexus chakra symbolMoving up, the Solar plexus chakra is the center of your personal power. Physically, it is located about two inches below the breastbone. It is the seat of your ego, willpower, passions and ambition. If your solar plexus chakra is imbalanced or depleted, you will find it difficult to take action on your dreams due to a sense of powerlessness and low self-esteem; you have very low self-worth, feel like a victim and often suffer from stomach issues and anxiety.

heart chakra symbolThe fourth chakra is the Heart chakra, the center for love and spirituality. Love doesn’t mean only love for others; it also applies to self-love and self-acceptance. This chakra is located right next to your physical heart – which is why, when you are struggling in this chakra, you may experience heartache! If your heart chakra is weak, you have trouble with giving and receiving love and being compassionate; you hold grudges and become needy in relationships, and this often leads to anger and distrust. A weak heart chakra can be at the root of heart disease, asthma and allergies.

throat chakra symbolThe fifth chakra is next in line. The Throat chakra is your communication center – your voice, your creative self-expression. The throat chakra is also responsible for truth, honesty and integrity. If you are unable to voice your opinions or true feelings; if you are known as the ‘quiet one’ and if you are frustrated because you don’t feel that other people hear what you have to say, your throat chakra is blocked. Throat and mouth problems are common.

third eye chakra symbolYour sixth chakra is the Third eye chakra (or brow chakra). It sits just between and above the eyes and it is responsible for psychic abilities such as intuition as well as your sense of purpose in life. Your third eye chakra is closed if you struggle with finding meaning in life and often ask yourself, “Why am I here? Why was I even born?” You have trouble making decisions and suffer from headaches and tension.

crown chakraFinally, we reach the crown chakra located at the top of your head. This is the connection between you and the divine. It is responsible for spirituality and enlightenment. Your brain functions and central nervous system are controlled by the crown chakra. If this chakra is depleted or blocked, you will experience loneliness, insignificance and meaninglessness. You may feel a strong attachment to material possessions and achievements (and define yourself according to them) and a disconnect from the spiritual side of life. Headaches are common.

Now, this list of problems can be overwhelming and depressing, if you suffer from more than just a few. But remember, you most likely have a blockage in one primary chakra that causes imbalances in the rest. That’s why it is important to find out where the main blockage is and what caused it. Then, with simple knowledge and exercises, you can become like a helpful police officer guiding traffic at a snarled intersection and restore the free flow of energy in your body.

When the seven chakras are in balance, life feels good and all is as it should be. This small introduction to the seven chakras is just the start to that journey.

The word chakra means wheel in Sanskrit. This is because each of the chakras is connected to the next in what appears to be a vertical line up the body. They also create loops of energy that surround your body. Generally, the 7 chakras are classified from the bottom to top of the head in an ascending manner. Each chakra has a corresponding color that make an ascending rainbow.

Most of us don’t have the means to receive bodywork as much as we’d like or need to. Whether it be more sound sleep, decreased anxiety, increased blood flow, flush of toxins, more agility through lengthened muscles, or touch healing – the benefits are endless! Setting aside some time in the week for your own personal pampering is an act of self love. We can experience much greater massage071heights in our lives when we feed of this art.

However, I feel the greatest benefit to bodywork is pushing through energetic blockages in the body, which then allows energy to flow through us more swiftly, enabling us to be a circuit of constantly renewed energy and an inviting channel for The Higher Self.

This week, I’m going to share a few cheap and simple goodies with you so you can experience some yummy pampering at home. Most of us aren’t fully aware of how much tension we have built up in our bodies, but once someone or something touches the area of tension…we cringe with awareness.

belly-massageBecoming aware of your body is yet another way to become aware of your inner landscape (I look at it as a more “physical” type of shadow work).

With these crafty remedies, you can discover your tensions first person and be present with yourself in the release of your trigger points (knots) – giving yourself credit for all of it. It is empowering and a perfect way to embody bliss.

1. Exercise and stretching

Trigger points have been known to show up through overuse or underuse of muscles, but there is always a weakness within the system which made it possible for the imbalance to appear in the first place. Whatever the weakness may be, exercise such as walking or running is a fantastic way to get the bodies energy moving and changing. It raises the body’s vibration. It aids Stretchingin excreting blockages and toxins that are built up and harbored in muscles.

Stretching is heaven. It calms, prepares, awakens, elongates, and rejuvenates muscles. Stretching IS release. Both exercise and stretching are healing art forms in and of themselves. Feed of them!

2. Tennis or Reflexology balls

Tennis or reflexology balls are wonderful tools for massage or trigger point release. Tennis balls are easier to access, but reflexology balls are usually made of a better material for our goal and have little protuberances for better grip. You can start by rolling around on them, using the weight of your own body. When you’ve found a tender spot – stay on it – breathe deep into the muscle and give it permission to let go. Once the pain has mostly subside, you can let it be and move on. Don’t overwork a trigger point, it can fester and become worse.

I especially love to roll around on a single tennis ball on my back, hip, tennis balls and gluteal muscles. Some also like to put two tennis balls inside of a tube sock and tie a knot at the end, like so:

You can then lay yourself down on the sock, with the tennis balls sufficiently spaced on each side of your spine (DO NOT press anything directing on your spine, ever) and make gentle rocking movements.

Shaded: Occipital ridge

Shaded: Occipital ridge

A lot of people love sitting a while with the paired tennis balls wedged at the base of their occipital ridge, it’s a huge release for mental and emotional stress.

3. Bouncy balls

When was that last time you thought of these? Perhaps the last time you visited an arcade vending machine…in the early 90’s. Bouncy balls can be used just like the tennis balls, if you desire – but it seems that most bbpeople use them for their feet. However, remember that no matter which method you are using; the smaller the ball, the more fine and acute pressure you will experience on any given point. Pin the ball to the ground with your foot and roll it around. Find the spots that hurt-so-good!

If you haven’t heard of reflexology; it is an alternative healing modality that claims the feet to be a map of the entire body and you can press certain points that correspond with that part of the body for healing purposes.

Here is a simple chart for you:

ReflexologyChart391

Some charts vary drastically and some are much more detailed than others. Find a reflexology book or search online for the chart that your body says “yes” to.

4. Rolling pins or foam rollers

Dig through your cupboards for the old fashioned rolling pin and strip your tight muscles into a supple dough! This works best for the IT band, quadriceps and hamstrings.

You can also buy a foam roller that is designed for this type of thing, like you see in this picture below. The only difference between this and a rolling pin is you are using your whole body to maneuver the weight distribution, not just your arm strength.foam roller

5. Scalp massagers

Scalp massage is by far my favorite to receive. It’s so relaxing and pampering. I’m convinced that if we all got a daily scalp massage, we’d be an immensely less stressed species. There are some extremely cheap scalp massagers on the market that all look similar to this:Tingler-Head-Scalp-Massager-with-a-Wooden-Ball

This tool gives you just as much of a tickle as it does a massage. It stimulates the scalp, relaxes the mind, and rejuvenates your senses. And if you don’t feel like doing it on yourself, it’s as simple as pie for someone else to assist you. I love this lil’ guy!

6. Body Back Buddy

Although I don’t have one, I’ve played with one, and know that it’s a seriously good tool to invest in. This isn’t the only version of this tool, so find the one for you. I’ll let you do the watching.

7. Self massage

Self massage can be a very meditative experience. I enjoy self massage on my scalp and abdomen the very most. If all of these make-shift methods fail, remember the greatest healer of all – you. Everyone has been given the sense and gift of touch. The touch of your hands can be very healing if done with a relaxed, tender, and loving intent. self-massage--z

Disclaimer: These are simply feel-good, at-home ideas for pampering and alternative healing, for those who want some extra attention. They should not be used as a substitute for any severe medical conditions and should always be performed carefully, with common sense and caution.

Living Aromatherapy: It’s Everywhere

Aromatherapy, Charmed Botanicals, Columns, The Sacral Chakra

City living can take it’s toll on us nature (wannabe) based dwellers. It dulls our senses. Day after day we are assaulting our noses with questionable scents, such as car fumes, artificial fragrances and mystery smells. Many of these artificial, some not, dull our senses to the magical world of aromatherapy that surrounds us.

Most artificial fragrances overpower our natural senses and give us headaches, burn out our sinuses resulting in loss of smell. Why? Because they are chemicals. They are cheap to make, but at a cost to our health and well being. They are not derived from natural sources. Meaning we get absolutely zero therapeutic value from those smells. Why even bother…?

What can you do to gain back your natural sense of smell? Start by gaining an aromatherapy consciousness and begin benefiting from living in our aromatherapy rich world.

Ready?

Stop and deeply breathe in a flower, pine tree or a sprig of organic orange blossomsrosemary or peppermint at a farmers market. Next time you eat an orange, appreciate the aroma that completely surrounds you. Be aware of the joy the aroma is spreading. Make a conscious effort anytime you see a natural source of fragrant herbs, flowers or trees to stop and smell them. Make sure whenever possible that it’s organic. Organics are much more fragrant and therapeutic than non organics and GMOs. Go out and be aware of the natural abundance that surrounds you everyday. It’s here to heal and guide us through this life. Follow your nose and you will be rewarded.

Live like this for one day!

“Living is about capturing the essence of things. I go through my life every day with a vial, a vial wherein can be found precious essential oils of every kind! The priceless, fragrant oils that are the essence of my experiences, my thoughts. I walk inside a different realm from everybody else, in that I am existing in the essence of things; every time there is reason to smile, I hold out my glass vial and capture that drop of oil, that essence, and then I smile.”

Natural living Aromatherapy:

Orange: Spreads sunshine; dispels gloomy thoughts, tension, stress and depression; encourages a positive outlook. Nourishes the soul, feeding it with feelings of joy.

Rosemary: is a cephalic oil, which means it stimulates the brain and  mental activity. Facilitates clear thoughts and clear-sightedness. At the most subtle level it may help the development of clairvoyance. It’s a psychic protector. Relevant to the brow chakra.

Peppermint: acts upon the ego, dispelling pride and helps overcome feelings of inferiority. It’s associated with cleanliness, and helps people who want to live an ethical life.

Pine: supports a calm inner being; warming and grounding effect

EmBody Bliss: Grounding

Body Work, EmBody Bliss, The Sacral Chakra

Grounding, there is much talk going around about it. Most people think of grounding as a strengthening and opening of the root chakra. To do this, a lot of people send an energetic chord or anchor into the center of the earth; some carry grounding crystals around with them; some simply walk bare foot on the ground. These are all wonderful things. feetGrounding1With huge energetic shifts happening in the world right now, most of us could benefit from grounding, but I’d like to dig a bit deeper into the ground with you today.

With higher vibrational changes come inevitable purging of old, stale, and stagnant energies, providing room for new energy. In this time of purging, we often experience downward spirals, instability, lethargy—you name it! These things are coming to the surface in hopes for our attention to move into new life. It is important to embrace and take care of these lower vibrational states, as they are a time of internal creation. It is also important to give credit to divine order, change, and flow, and to not settle on the idea that we are just emotional basket cases.

letting-go

We are one with a collective vibration and all of its changes. Although you may not visibly see energy moving around you – it is there – and you are no doubt affected by it all of the time. It is not something to run from, it’s something to flow with. Divine order holds you.

Grounding can be a bit consciously or even subconsciously nerve wracking, and therefore, unpracticed. As stated above, most consider grounding an activation of the lowest chakra, but it is my belief that grounding is the activation and balance of all chakras. It is often said,

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

As we contemplate these words, we remember that our inherent nature is that of a spiritual connection to All That Is. We did not come here to dispose of that foundation; we came here to integrate heaven and earth—the spiritual and the physical. Finding peace between the two is the deeper essence of the human experience.

a-new-heaven-and-a-new-earth

Part of the human experience that we chose into is ego. As all things are, the ego in and of itself is a creation of Source, we don’t want to make an enemy of it. The ego creates perceptions of separateness, and it’s only in knowing separateness that we know Oneness. Ideally, we want to integrate with the ego—not crucify it.

The choice to experience ego in the first place was a part of your purpose, and running from your purpose is only bearable for so long. Finding the balance between our more spiritual and physical energy centers (chakras) is much like a term we use in the holistic health industry—homeostasis. Homeostasis is a state in which the body operates in healthy levels of internal regulation, experiencing stability and balance.

For light workers or more spiritual types, they may feel a hint of fear around the idea of grounding because playing in their ethereal upper 1234569040rP7L4Cchakra worlds is just too darn fun. Or perhaps, leaving them seems unsafe because your physical world feels like a harsh and painful reality.

For those who aren’t as in touch with their spiritual nature, they likely will experience the opposite and cower in fear or doubt to a boundless, mystical world. They may feel more safe, stable, and familiar within the activation of lower chakras. Whichever behaviors you fall under, both are experiencing pain.

As we feel pain, we shift into fear; fear of survival, rejection, compromised foundation, instinct, and will to live. Some also experience fear of their shadow, perceived identity, mind-scapes, all possibility, no boundary, or detachment to absolute truth.

When we feel the gravity of pain, we tend to withdraw into our “safety chakras” in a protective manner of escape—which is what has caused an imbalance in the first place. This is a perfectly normal escape route but I-am-PowerfulI’m here to tell you that you’re brave, powerful, and chose to be present here in your spiritual body.

Although we live in a society that doesn’t foster balance or grounding extremely well, it is my hope that we find the balance in ourselves between heaven and earth that we intended. Once we taste of the integration, we will find more joy in our experience. When we experience that joy, we become happily committed to being here. In my experience, I’ve found that the most “ungrounded” people are those that have not quite committed to life here yet. It is my hope that we find the safety in our decision to be here as a spiritual being having a human experience.

open-third-eye-chakra-ajna-meditation

In the midst of heaven and earth, with clear and balanced chakras, Source knows nothing but to envelope you. Grounding is about loving yourself exactly as you are, where you are, because it’s where you chose to be. If you wish to be anywhere else, your joy will never know where to meet you.

Faith

The first time I saw him I was upside down.  I hung from my knees Swinging on treeon an old apple tree, viewing the world like a possum. It happened suddenly, a kind of summer magic. He stepped into my upside-down picture, blinking wide at me. I studied him carefully: A wrong side-up boy of ten, with a curly lump of hair on his catawampus head.  “Hi” he said.  I shushed him with my finger pressed firm to my lips. “I’m talking to God.”

He climbed up the tree, tucked his knees behind the fat branch and swung backwards next to me. We stared at each other, bottoms-up, red faced, hair full of static and air. In silence we talked to God, our bellies exposed to the breeze. We dropped like cherry bombs when our heads swam too heavy.

He came the next day to the twisted apple tree, and hung upside- down next to me. All summer we swung, overturned, talking to God, never knowing each others’ lopsided prayers. I memorized the way his long nose twitched in the summer air – how his red hair lopped to the left and covered his scabby ear. He always fought gravity from pulling his shirt too far toward his head.

One summer day I swung alone, my stomach soaking in sunlight, whispering my wrong-side out prayers on the other side of gravity. Four days I passed without him, hanging from the apple tree, wishing he was next to me. On the fifth day he walked into my upside down prayer, one of his brown eyes circled in fading blue. He climbed the tree in silence. I watched him swing, smaller somehow, unsteady in the breeze.

Eyes closed in our space above the ground; he laced his fingers with old apple treemine. Hand in hand, we hovered away from the right-side up. He kept his eyes shut tight as he prayed, then looked to a merciless sun. A tear slid down his long nose and landed on a blade of yellow grass below.

Later that evening an autumn breeze chased away the sun, pushed aside the apple air, and colored the green leaves red.

I can see now how the wind moved us, why we needed the world on its head.

The last time I saw him I was up-side-down, hanging alone in his unanswered prayers.

Christy’s choicest choices: Vega Sport Recovery Accelerator

Christy’s Choicest Choices, Giveaways, Health Products, Recipes

It seems that for the past month or two we’ve been socially experiencing quite surge of energy, coupled with a bit of a vortex. I couldn’t even stand still! The election media has been in everyones face stirring up some exhaustion. Then there was Hurricane Sandy, yikes. The storm pushed and cleared a lot of old energies, while destroying everything in it’s path. We all need some major recovery right about now!

Synchronistically enough, the product I set my sites to review several days ago, is a recovery product.

Vega Sport Recovery Accelerator is pretty amazing stuff.

I have been using Recovery Accelerator regularly with my heavy gym workouts for three weeks now. It’s really been an essential part of my routine. I started from a ground level, you know, I was a soft-body. I haven’t been to the gym in years and my hiking schedule was irregular this year. I wanted to see fast results in order to stay motivated. That meant I needed to do cardiovascular exercise coupled with weight lifting around 5xs weekly.

I had all the willpower I needed already stored up, from late night Pinterest surfing. Yet my experiences with sore muscles from previous fitness endeavors left me a little nervy. I did not have the time for feeling sore or being slow! Hey look that’s me headed to the gym with my game face on!

Now we cue the solution.. Vega Sport Recovery Accelerator my vote, this stuff really does work. I push it to the edge at the gym. I’ve had two gym visits where I did push it too far, but after an extra dose of Recovery Accelerator I felt much better. Magic, I know.

This stuff has some really awesome target dose ingredients!

-Almost 4,000mg of yellow pea and brown rice protein

-1,500mg of gelatinized maca root.

-Plus highly effective amounts of: Devils claw, Glucosamine, electrolytes, Astragalus, Turmeric, L-Arginine, and American Ginseng.

Lets talk in more detail about these effective ingredients.

First of all the additional small print things are lovely, nothing unnecessary or questionable.. Just good effective stuff.

Then we have the superstars of the ingredients list:

Devils Claw is used in the treatment of pain and inflammation. It’s a very sacred herb hailing from Africa.

Glucosamine hydrochloride aids in the rebuilding of “exercise damage” related to the bodies cartilage and tissues. It helps strengthen joints in the body which is essential for injury and accident prevention.

Electrolytes keep us hydrated, which is extremely important. Adding the Recovery Accelerator to Coconut water gives it a super charge!! Plus it takes your coconut water to a whole new flavor level!

The superstar in the mix, Astragalus is an amazing herb used for thousands of years aiding numerous issues! It boost antioxidant levels by ridding the body of free radicals, it’s been used as an anti viral/bacterial, and also as an anti inflammatory.

Turmeric has thankfully become more well known lately, beyond it’s curry claim to fame. It’s a natural anti inflammatory and also helps to heal the liver. Vega uses a 95% active compound, no cutting corners!

L-Arginine is a vasodilator commonly used by performance driven athletes to help the heart pump blood faster.

American Ginseng is another ancient herb used over thousands of years for physical stress, inflammation, and immune health.

It all sounds so complex but I promise it tastes delicious. I mix the Tropical flavor in my car while I’m still in the gym parking lot. I just bring a single serving with me and some extra spring water. It shakes well. There’s an Apple Berry flavor which is quite tasty as too.

I hope you take this Mercury retrograde time to heal yourself and recover from the passing storms. In an effort to pay forward my own recovery efforts, the first three people to comment and tell me how they help with any type of recovery (for yourself, other people, our planet) will receive their own supply of Post Workout Recovery Accelerator by Vega.

With each recovery comes greater strength,

Go with Love.

Embracing Death and Letting Go: Welcome Winter & The Elven Retreat

Channeled Writtings, The Sacral Chakra

Death is in the air. Creation is eminent.

The end of the year approaches, leaves fall, and the mountains surrounding me have been capped with the first falling snow. Winter is coming.

My mom died in winter when I was 12. Two years ago we buried my nephew under the snow. Winter brings death, and feelings I’d rather avoid. But this time feels different. I feel my spirit calling me to embrace the coming year, the coming ends, and the insulation of new beginnings.

Today is October 13th. Thirteen is my activation number, and I am using its symbolic power to embrace all that is, all that is coming, and all that is going away. Today I am welcoming winter through letting go.

Below are some of my winter creations — creations to accept death:

Mother,

I was twelve years old when you were buried. A winter storm drew shadows above the heads of mourners. The smell of wet dirt and dead trees lurked among the crowd dressed in long church coats.  My father wore a red tie. It was the only color between the sky and the black road that curved and crept through the cemetery. It reminded me of the blood you coughed up the night before you died, the violent way it entered our world. I never knew my father before that day you traded places, but I watched his breath rise like smoke as he exhaled the dead air, releasing the winter ghost who haunted the abandoned trees.

I couldn’t see faces. Only the way the black clouds formed a veil over the freshly dug dirt. I remember the tapping of the branches as they moved in the wind. I was cold. The trees were the only presence around me, and the mist rising from the earth filled the air with a thick and unmovable silence.

The pastor said it was God’s will to take you away – that you were needed somewhere else – away from us. I hated God’s will, as I hated winter, and that red tie.

My father took me to his house after the earth swallowed you. He said it was my home. He didn’t know I no longer had a home – he couldn’t see the two worlds I stood between: the one with you in it, and the one without. He doesn’t remember the red tie, or the way the winter ghost moved darkly through the trees. He didn’t see the snow falling in my unbuckled Sunday shoe as you were lowered in the ground. He never noticed my miss-buttoned dress coat, or the way my satin ribbon came undone and tumbled in the wind, toward you.

This winter, January 2013 the Elves have called us to assemble in Park City. Once again, the number thirteen has activated something new. Here is some stuff I’ve channeled about the retreat:

To connect with the Elves of winter is to connect with all that sleeps within you. Deep in the caverns of your heart, is a rare and ancient magic – a magic that knows its connection to all things. To awaken in winter is to shed all that is inessential, and reveal that which has been lost. To connect to the magic within you, is to connect to a realm where beauty is restored to its proper balance and sleeping desires are awakened and restored. These are the desires and intentions you set forth before entering in to this dimension – as you understood this time (this year) would be a time for old programs to be shed, ancient magic to be awakened, and new magic to be learned.

To connect to the Elves of Winter is to fully restore your imagination. Imagination is the true work of the magician. And magic is bliss. Magic is the creation of your world. The particular magic that you and Charis will perform together will usher in a specific geometric portal to other realms of existence. Can you feel the power behind that intention? You two were meant to come together for this reason.

There is much balance here, and as the restoration and rebirth of the planet itself is unfolding, so is the realm we reside, and therefore, your realm. We are connected in an integral way.

To teach certain individuals to connect to this realm is to open up the portals of their hearts for the out-pouring of the new World. You will see this happen in the class – you will feel the momentum of the space you provide, and the immensity of the dimension that is poured within it. Show up. Show up. This is all that needs occur.

As you can see and feel, this birthing cannot take place without the full reconciliation of your heart to Source. The heart is central, and it must take its central place at this retreat. It is essential for the heart to be restored, opened, and channeled into your dimension to help usher in all that is new and full of Light. At this retreat, you will all be pulling “down” (so to speak) a piece of your own Divine heaven, and as you each move your sacred patterns of dimensional work into the 3D space you occupy, you will get a taste of what the new Earth is you are creating.

As you know, everything that is occurring in our realm is future tense for you. Everything in the 3D ream is past tense – the physical manifestations you are currently experiencing have already formed and manifested in this realm long ago. That is why connecting to our realm is so powerful – it is the realm of thought forms, the realm of “pre existing potential.” At this Elvin retreat, you will all experience this lapse in time. To enter our realm (especially in winter) is to exit the time/space as you know it. This movement will be natural, and the space you hold the retreat, along with Charis’s knowledge of pivotal time movement and dimensional overlap, will create a vortex of creation for all of you to enter into. This will truly be a pathway to your bliss.

The winter Elves bring forth all the knowledge of our world that sleeps. It is the paving for Spring – what sleeps in winter is reborn in Spring. The winter Elves oversee the death – the passing from one life to another (which is precisely the process your realm is moving through – the birth of the new). What occurs in winter is essential, and this year, 2012, is unprecedented in what it will unfold – especially in our realm. Many Elves are assisting in this transition, which is why we have called you together. This is the realm of your future, and much will occur during this particular winter solstice.

What you and Charis are creating in this gathering is beyond what you can now conceptualize, but the dimension (and specific geometric patterns for creating a space for us) will be revealed to both of you in time for the gathering. You will channel writing meditations that will literally create portals in the awareness of all who attend, and Charis will weave together a space that is capable of holding these powerful dimensions together. By allowing these dimensional shifts to restore your hearts, your imaginations will be set free to do what they are designed to do: Create your world.

(Blissing Out with the Elves in Park City)

How are you welcoming winter into your life?
