The Meaning of Number 8

[Reblogged from Numberology.com]

The number 8 is perhaps the most misunderstood of all single-digit numbers, as novices and professionals alike always seem to hammer on the “money and power” image of the 8. More often than not, when a client requests a name change consultation, it means he or she wants to add 8s to his or her chart in the mistaken belief that it will bring money and power.

It is true that the number 8, more than any other number, puts the emphasis in the areas of career, business, finances and authority. However, as with many other single-digit numbers, the shape of the number reflects its most important attribute, and in the case of the number 8, that is, first and foremost, balance. The 8 is the great Karmic equalizer, a force that just as easily creates as it destroys. When the 8 comes knocking, you can be assured that you will reap what you’ve sown.

The 8 balances the material and immaterial worlds. At its best, it is as spiritual as it is materialistic. The spiritual side of the 8 is practical, realistic and intelligent. It knows the difference between make-believe and genuine spiritual realizations. On the material plane, it is focused on results, often in the form of money, yet does not care much about money for the sake of money. It is not greedy, it sees money as a tool, not an end-result. It is generous and willing to take risks. People with strong 8s in their charts often make and lose fortunes a couple of times during their life. They never consider bankruptcy a reason to slow down or feel sorry, but, rather, come out stronger and more success-oriented than before.

Some of the more recognizable traits of the 8 are drive, ambition, authority, efficiency, organization, management, discipline and control. The 8 is goal-oriented, focused, has good judgment, can discriminate and is practical, a realist. Its closest relative is the 1 as both numbers are powerful, have strong leadership skills, are unquestionably masculine and will not shy away from a confrontation. However, where the 1 lacks diplomatic skills and an understanding of human nature — more typically the traits of the 2 — the 8 has those abilities as well, which is perhaps the most important reason the 8 tends to do well in business and in authority roles (the military and law enforcement draw a lot of 8s).

When the 8 appears in your personality profile chart, it indicates the presence of the character traits mentioned earlier, as well as the potential to be very successful and prosperous — hence the reason so many people like to manipulate their charts to add one or more 8s. However, the energy of the 8 needs to be supported by other numbers in order to flourish, such as the 4 to help you keep an eye on the all-important details, and the 9 to keep you in touch with your humanity. So be careful what you ask for. If you decide to change your name to add one or more 8s to your chart, and the rest of your chart does not support this strong force, you may come to inherit more of its negative powers like frustration, dissatisfaction, anger, aggression, greed, intolerance, hate and insomnia. A higher-than-average percentage of 8s find their way into the top echelons of society, but you will also find a disproportionate number of 8s among the homeless.

If the 8 appears in your cycles, especially your Essence cycle, there is an increase in energy and focus, a sense of “can do,” and enhanced self-confidence. The shape of the 8 shows balance, but it also shows confidence, as it looks you right in the eye. A positive 8 is honest to a fault, generous and forgiving. They are physically imposing and often athletic, especially good in sports requiring strength and endurance. They are not particularly romantic, as they prefer a practical and straight-forward approach, but they are loving and more than carry their weight.

As with all single-digit numbers, the 8 has a positive and a negative side. However, one of the mysteries of Numerology is that there is a small number of people who, from an early age on and for no discernible reason, seem to turn the exact opposite direction of what their charts indicate. The key word here is “seem.” This phenomena is found with all numbers, but appears to affect 8s more than others. There are quite a few people whose charts are dominated with 8s who become priests, missionaries, humanitarians and so forth, but those sacrificing and loving souls do still tend to be good at fundraising, money management and authority.

Introducing Numberism!

Strolling through Portland’s Saturday Market a while back, amid the huge treasure trove of handmade local goods, I stumbled upon something — or, someone — truly wonderful. Now, I’m thrilled that I get to share with you the artwork of Portland, Oregon artist Sienna Morris.

Self-coined “numberism,” Morris’ style blends together the worlds of numbers, science and art in a whole new way. From afar, her drawings and paintings reveal defined, recognizable images, yet when you step closer, you’ll notice that there are no lines, there is no shading … the entire piece is made up completely of numbers. “This work is how a naturally non-mathematical artist celebrates a mathematical world,” Morris says on her website. And she doesn’t just throw any random numbers into her work. Spending anywhere between a week and an entire year researching each piece, Morris carefully chooses numbers that are directly related to the images and ideas she creates.

And get this … one of her most striking prints belongs to me! Last Christmas my truly inspired gift-giving sister surprised me with Morris’ Seahorse piece, featuring flowing green seagrass and a detailed pink seahorse. The numbers used to make up the seagrass — 12,000 — depict the miles of seagrass destroyed each year, while the numbers of a clock, 1 – 12, were used to create the seahorse to signify the passing of time.

Morris is fascinated by the concept of time and the impact of the present moment. Through her artwork she connects our right brains and our left brains into one lovely, grey in-between as we consider scientific concepts from a visual point of view, while paradoxically absorbing visual artwork from a scientific point of view.

And lucky you … you don’ t have to live in the Northwest to view this stunning artwork! Check out fleetingstates.com to see Sienna Morris’ complete gallery, and read more about her process and the story behind her symbolic style. And there’s even more info about her process and upcoming works in a complete article featured in The Oregonian newspaper!

Enjoy!

Today we feature one of the top numerology blogs on the web to help us decode the patterns of the Universe: www.numerology.com. Be sure to stop by their site and check-out the magic!

Patterns are everywhere. They’ve always existed, and they will go on existing in their unassuming way whether we notice them or not. From organic life forms and manmade objects to recurring situations and the cycles of time, they’re there.

Many people will go through life blind to these patterns, and end up happy people with fulfilled lives, completely unaware of what they’ve overlooked. But those of us who have our eyes open to these patterns, who observe and absorb the ordered, connected nature of the universe in which we live and the role we play in the grand scheme of things, we have the potential to understand ourselves, the environment and the ups and downs of life on a very different level.

Numerology is a study of order, and the patterns we see and experience in life are a tangible representation of that order. An understanding of Numerology and an awareness of these patterns, on any level, can bring us greater understanding of who we are and why we think the way we think, experience the things we experience and so on. Through studying Numerology, we create a space within our awareness that allows us to consider parts of life that others look past; we hone our subconscious to observe the world with openness and knowledge.

Life, time, nature — everything is a cycle. It’s a concept that’s easy to say and easy to hear, but when we tap into the science of numbers, it becomes easy to truly understand, easy to apply.

We may not always know exactly what a pattern means or how it will impact our lives, but the simple acknowledgement that these patterns are out there, influencing us in both trivial and significant ways, well, sometimes that’s all we really need to know. When we realize that there is order around us, that everything is a cycle, including this very moment, it makes the difficult parts of life seem less dramatic. They become workable situations, lessons in progression rather than setbacks.

And so I invite you to build your awareness! Here at Numerology.com we’re dedicated to helping you in your quest for answers by keeping you up on the patterns that are happening around you and teaching you all we can about the language of numbers. Enjoy the journey!

Numerologically, today is a very special day! And in order to indulge our readers in all the possible meanings, I thought I would share with you a message from my soul sister, Dashama. This is a message Dashama shared in her newsletter today, and it was so beautiful and informative, I just had to pass it on.

Thanks, Dashama!

Aloha Love,

In honor of 12-12-12, I thought it may be interesting for you to  learn a little about the significance of this auspicious date in time. DashamaAs we approach the holidays and gather with friends, family, community and loved ones in communion to celebrate love and connection, let us remember the deeper meanings and intention behind all of these days, so we may experience the richest and most profound blessings from every breath we take collectively and individually. Read on below, as I also share a simple meditation practice for you to soak it all in and allow the richness of each interaction and experience to enhance the fabric of your character and the strength of your soul.

Symbolism

  • According to Chinese Numerology, the number 1 is a yang number which is ruled by the sun and represents independence & individualism. 2 is a yin number which is ruled by the moon and represents symmetry and balance. When placed together, the number 12 brings harmony to the yin and yang, balancing the feminine energy of the moon with the masculine energy of the sun.
  • Twelve is the number of what is completed, which forms a whole, a perfect and harmonious unit. In the ancient civilizations, like Oriental and Judaic, it corresponds to the plenitude, the completion and the integrality of all things.
  • Represents the manifestation of the Trinity to the four corners of the horizon – 3 X 4.
  • It is the creative capacity, and in some religions, it expresses also the Divine Mother.
  • The Buddhists recognize twelve causes of existence or Nidanas.
  • The twelve signs, or constellations, of the zodiac.
  • The twelve animals of the Chinese horoscope: the Rat, the Ox, the Tiger, the Cat, the Dragon, the Snake, the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Cock, the Dog and the Pig.
  • The twelve lunar years in the Chinese lunar calendar forming the complete cycle which lasts sixty years.
  • There are twelve principal divinities in the Greek mythology.
  • The twelve names of the Sun in Sanskrit, which are pronounced such as the mantras.
  • The twelve petals of the Anahata Chakra located in the area of the heart and the twelve petals of the corolla of the Sahasrara Chakra located a the top of the head.
  • It is the number of proposals or verses of the Emerald Table, summarizing all the teaching of the Hermetic tradition. It is a document originating from Egypt, attributed to Hermes Trismegist.
  • Twelve is the first number known as “abundant” since the sum of its dividers (aliquot parts) gives a result higher than 12: 1+2+3+4+6=16.

Regardless of your race, religion or cultural background, there is a significance we can all draw from this special day.

Meditation / Action Step: I suggest you take at least 5 minutes, Meditation2 or even longer if you can, and meditate on all of the abundance you have in your own life and breath in gratitude for all of the blessings and gifts, love and support you receive every day in so many ways. Acknowledge the balance, harmony, individuality and independence you feel and experience in your life and recognize the areas you can improve upon.

By doing this, you will be aligning with the highest frequency, love and gratitude, which will attract ever greater and more of the same to your life as long as you hold that space, in your heart and mind. Be careful not to fall back into thoughts of lack or negative patterns, as those will only sabotage your great success and happiness.

Remember, we are all in this together. When you do something, I feel it, and vice versa. Let us all remember that we affect the world with our thoughts, words and deeds.

May we all be guided to choose the most eloquent words of compassion and kindness. And not be too hard on ourselves when we make mistakes, but continue to grow, learn and strive for excellence in all areas of ours lives.

I hope to meet you soon, at one of the events coming up either in Miami, Florida, San Diego, California or Bali next June.

Infinite blessings to you,

Namaste,

Dashama
